Children traveled to the ”Sfanta Maria” Emergency Children’s Hospital in Iasi to have their hearts screened by Dr. Akiva Tamir and Dr. Ilan Cohen

Children traveled from near and far to the ”Sfanta Maria” Emergency Children’s Hospital in Iasi to have their hearts screened by Dr. Akiva Tamir and Dr. Ilan Cohen from the Wolfson Medical Center in Israel.

Also taking part in the medical mission was Dr. Iona Bejan a Romanian pediatric cardiologist who trained in Israel through SACH and recently returned to Romania, Dr Georgana Russo and Dr. Victor who have trained with SACH and Magda Iona.

In just over one day, the doctors tested the hearts of sixty four children, including some who have already been treated at the Wolfson Medical Center and came for follow up checks. Children who need heart surgery will soon travel to Israel to receive the life-saving care they need.

The medical mission to Romania is part of a larger initiative to improve pediatric cardiac care in Romania and includes treating children, training local medical staff and providing medical equipment. The initiative is a partnership between the Romanian Ministry of Health, the Bucharest District Town Hall, the Grigore Alexandrescy Emergency Pediatric Hospital, Gift of Life (USA), Rotary International Romania, the Wolson Medical Center and Save a Child’s Heart. A memorandum of understanding was signed on March 21 to formalize the agreement.
