Mwewa

Zambia

A bright and ebullient 14-year-old from Zambia returns home to continue her studies with a healthy heart.

Mwewa is a 14-year-old girl from Lusaka, Zambia. Mwewa has a big mind, personality, and smile and loves dancing, reading, and drawing.

Mwewa lives with her grandparents, in the capital city of Lusaka, due to the frequency of her hospital visits. After fainting in school at the age of 12, Mwewa was sent to the hospital where the doctors learned about her heart condition. Mwewa was diagnosed with partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR)

PAPVR is a condition where proper blood flow is abnormal because the pulmonary vein carries blood incorrectly into parts of the heart, instead of entering the heart's upper left chamber.

Mwewa arrived at Save a Child’s Heart with a group of nurses from Zambia in the spring of 2021 and underwent life-saving surgery at the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon

She will continue to be followed up with at the National Heart Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. Mwewa was so excited to return home in August of 2021 in time to take her 7th grade exams. She looks forward to advancing in her education and we look forward to seeing how far she will go.
