The Save a Child's Heart Israeli team - Dr. Akiva Tamar, Pediatric Cardiologist, Miri Ben Or, PICU Nurse, and Tamar Shapira, SACH Deputy Director - arrived in South Sudan for a busy 3 day screening mission in collaboration with IsraAid. Dozens of children were waiting for the team to arrive at the Al Sabach Hospital in Juba. The local medical team had everything prepared and were eager to start working with the SACH Israeli team!

Honorable Nagwa Juma, State minister for health, Dr. Ader Madchar, Undersecretary of the national ministry, Dr. Gamal Hassan, Director general to the ministry of health, and Gershon Keidar, Israeli ambassador to South Sudan stopped by the clinic to visit with the team and the children.
I am delighted to have Save a Child’s Heart in Juba. It is a good opportunity for us to open the possibility of tearing children with heart disease. I am hopeful that this mission will continue and we will be able to treat many children. The list is long and we wish to have as many missions as possible. Thank you once again.

We arrived today to the hospital and met the team. There are many children in need here, and we will do our best to screen and diagnose as many children as we can with the team.

We are very grateful for the cooperation between IsraAid, Save a Child’s Heart and the Al Sabah hospital In identifying children with heart problems and offering them the possibility of receiving lifesaving treatment and we look forward to continuing this partnership.

While at the hospital, 2 siblings were screened and diagnosed with the same heart disease, VSD. Job, 16 years old and his little sister Kristine, 4 and a half years old were both seen by Dr. Tamir on the first day of our mission. The family lives in Juba. There are 6 children in the family but only Job and Kristine have heart conditions. Their mother is a math and science teacher in a school. Job and Kristine both get very tired easily and the doctors in Juba were not sure what the problem was. They went to several doctors before they were referred to the Save a Child’s Heart clinic for evaluation.
During our South Sudan mission, the team caught up with 4 past patients who were in Israel last year for their life-saving procedures! Habiba, Joel, Gai and Phillip were all treated in 2022 in Israel.
